Stability Barriers

Finding stable housing and employment can be major obstacles for individuals returning from incarceration. A criminal record can create barriers to securing housing and finding meaningful employment, making it difficult to establish financial stability and increasing the risk of homelessness or returning to harmful circumstances.

Beyond housing and employment, individuals returning home often face stigma and difficulty rebuilding relationships. Negative perceptions surrounding incarceration can create isolation and make it harder to reconnect with family, establish healthy relationships, and feel a sense of belonging within the community.

Many individuals returning from incarceration also face mental health challenges or substance use issues that can complicate the reentry process. Limited access to appropriate treatment and support can make it difficult to address these challenges and successfully transition into stable community life.
